When you're making these cookies it's important that you use dark chocolate chips, instead of milk or white chocolate.

Dark chocolate contains anti-oxidants that are said to be good for your heart and reduce your blood pressure. Chocolate is made using cocoa butter which is one of the healthier types of fat. Find out more chocolate facts.

So, the higher the cocoa content the better - ideally you should use chocolate chips that are 70% cocoa as these use less saturated fats that are unhealthy and can lead to heart disease.

If you find dark chocolate too bitter, try replacing half the chips with raisins or chopped dried apricots as a healthy way of making them sweeter.

These cookies are a great replacement for chocolate bars in a lunchbox or as a snack. Although they are healthier than manufactured cookies, you should be careful not to overdo it, but have them as a treat once or twice a week.

Ingredients
55g/½ cup butter, softened
115g/¾ cup brown sugar, packed
1 egg
55ml/¼ cup skimmed (nonfat) milk
225g/2 cups plain (all-purpose) flour, preferably wholewheat
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
150g/¾ cup dark chocolate chips

Method
Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas mark 4. Lightly grease two baking sheets.In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.Beat in the egg, then the milk.Stir in the flour, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon and chocolate chips.Place teaspoonfuls of the mixture on to the baking sheets and press down lightly with the back of a fork.Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown.
